Description: The “permanent establishment” concept is of fundamental importance in both Canadian domestic and international tax law. Recent developments in international law, including the OECD’s BEPS project and amendments to the UN Model, are introducing the first significant changes to the permanent establishment definition in almost a century. This presentation will review the current law surrounding this fundamental concept as well as touch on some of the ways it may be changing to adapt to modern times.
